Membership Requirements

Attendance

Members are expected to attend Club meetings.  The Club by-laws provide for the dismissal of any member that fails to attend four consecutive meetings.  Members missing a meeting may make up the meeting by attending the Club Board of Directors Meeting during that same month.  The Board of Directors meets at 7:30 pm at the Harmony United Methodist Church preceding Monday preceding the regular Thursday meeting.  The missed meeting may also be made up by performing four hours of community service or by attending a regular meeting of another Ruritan Club.  In Loudoun County, there are Clubs at: Aldie, Sterling, Lucketts, Hillsboro, Lovettsville, and Ashburn.  In the Hamilton Club, Curtis Laycock has attended, or made up every Club meeting since the Club was chartered in 1957.  Sam Welsh has attended, or made up every meeting since 1966.

At each of the Club dinners, members must wear their Ruritan pin.  If a member does not wear his or her pin, the Sergeant-at-Arms will fine the member ten cents. It is highly encouraged that members also wear their nametags to meetings and events.

Meeting

The Hamilton Ruritan Club meets at 7pm on the first Thursday of each month (refer also to the Club calendar for specific dates).  The meeting consists of dinner, a speaker, and the business meeting.  The Hamilton Club Board of Directors meets at 7:30pm on the Monday before the regular Thursday Club meeting.  The location of the meetings is Harmony United Methodist Church.

DUES

Dues for membership in the Hamilton Ruritan Club are $175.00 per year.  New members pay $180.00 their first year to cover initiation expenses.  Dues are to be submitted to the Treasurer at the January meeting or they may be mailed to the Treasurer at the Hamilton Ruritan Club Post Office Box 302, Hamilton, Virginia 20159.  Members also have the option of paying for their dues on a quarterly basis.  Dues are $42.50 per quarter if a member elects to pay quarterly.

The majority of dues are used to pay for Club meals.  Currently, meals cost $15.00 per member.  There are ten meals per year at the Church, one Spouses’ Night in August, and one Family Picnic in July.

Ruritan National dues are $10.00 per member per quarter.  Each member receives the national publication, RURITAN, as well as other benefits of the national organization.  District dues are $4.00 per year for each member.
