Hamilton
Ruritan Club Memorial Scholarship
The Hamilton Ruritan Memorial Scholarship originated
in April, 1987, for the primary purpose of encouraging
and financially assisting certain deserving young people
in our community to continue their education beyond
the high school level. It further was deemed appropriate,
through this program, to pay tribute to all deceased
Hamilton Ruritan Club members for their continuous and
enthusiastic service to our community.
Annually, the Hamilton Ruritan Club Scholarship Committee
identifies qualified scholarship candidates from the
senior class at Loudoun Valley High School. From
the candidate list, the Club awards its scholarships
at the Loudoun Valley High School’s annual Scholarship
Awards Ceremony. The selected scholar(s) and their
parents are also invited to dinner as guests of the
Hamilton Ruritan Club in order that all Club members
have the opportunity to meet and to congratulate those
students selected.
Funds for this program primarily come from two sources.
Each February, the Club has a major campaign to
sell quality citrus fruits trucked directly to Hamilton
from a large Florida grower. The profits from
the sale are supplemented by the National Ruritan Organization
and the combined monies are used to fund the Memorial
Scholarship Program.
The Hamilton Ruritan Club awards two Loudoun Valley
High School seniors with college scholarships. The Club
approved Troop 969 to also be eligible. The scholarships
are for $3,000 each and will be paid $1,500 each year
for 2 years. Applicants must live in the Hamilton community
with plans to attend a two or four-year higher education
course of study culminating in a degree. Applications
must be submitted to the Hamilton Ruritan Club and may
be obtained from the club, or the Loudoun Valley High School Guidance office.
